The new official roster was released yesterday, and there were some changes. Technically, there are now two No. 34s. Richie Worship is now wearing No. 34, but we previewed him on Friday when he was previously wearing No. 36. The second No. 34 is a freshman walk-on linebacker from West Lafayette.

Jonah Williams – Fr.

West Lafayette, IN (West Lafayette HS)

6’3”, 235 pounds

2017 Projection: Likely redshirt

If you’re going to be a walk-on paying your own way, you might as well be a townie where you are paying in-state tuition and you can live at home without paying room and board. That is Jonah. He comes from the strong West Lafayette HS program that has won three sectionals, two regionals, and was state runner-up in Class 3A in 2015. In the 2015 state title game, a 31-7 loss to Chatard, Williams had 6 tackles and a reception for 9 yards after playing both ways all season.

As a receiver he had 36 receptions for 452 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior. I couldn’t find his senior year stats though. He will play linebacker at Purdue, and he brings excellent size to the position. In time, he could develop into a special teams contributor quite easily.
