Looking for a walk-on to start in 2017? Look no further than today’s player.

Jacob Thieneman - Jr.

Noblesville, IN (Guerin Catholic HS)

6', 205 pounds

2017 Projection: Potential starter at safety

Thieneman has been everything you could ask from a walk-on. He worked his way to the field last season after two years of playing on the practice squad. He was mostly a special teamer last year, but by the end fo the season he was playing regularly on the defense. He ended up making 12 tackles in 11 games, one of them for a loss, and against Indiana in the Bucket game he had an interception he returned for 25 yards off of Bond villain Zander Diamont in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, Purdue couldn’t do anything with it once he returned it to the Indiana 31, despite already leading 22-17. It still set the table for a solid junior season where Thieneman is in the regular mix to start at safety.
