44 Days to Purdue Football: Anthony Watts

The redshirt freshman is ready to contribute.

NCAA Football: Cincinnati at Purdue Sandra Dukes-USA TODAY Sports

The ideal spot to be in coming out of your redshirt year is somewhere on the two-deep. That is what today’s player is striving to do.

Anthony Watts – Fr. (RS)

Defensive Tackle

2017 Projection: In the rotation at defensive tackle.

Last season Purdue had three true freshmen at defensive tackle. Alex Criddle and Lorenzo Neal ended up playing. Watts, however, drew a redshirt to gain experience for this year. Now he is ready to contribute at a position where Purdue could use him for depth.

At Yates HS in Houston he was an all-district selection for three straight seasons. A lot of schools were after his services, including California, Kansas, and Colorado State. He was a three-star prospect and has good size to be a run stuffing defensive tackle. In viewing his highlights he needs to gain some quickness, but he has some good strength to be a decent tackle.
