Today we have another player that is not the most famous athlete in his family.
Austin Larkin – Sr.
University City, MO (City College of San Francisco)
6’3”, 262 pounds
Defensive End
2017 Projection: Possible Starter at Defensive End
Larkin came to Purdue last season after a long journey. He started at Notre Dame, where he earned some playing time as a walk-on. He then transferred to City College of San Francisco, where is had 38 tackles and 7 sacks in 13 games. That earned him a scholarship offer from Purdue, where last season he played in 10 games and had 18 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks. That makes him a potential starter this fall if he can get past an ankle injury that has slowed him.
As for his family, he has some athletic history. His cousin is Shane Larkin,. Who was the ACC Player of the Year in basketball for Miami in 2013. He parlayed that into being picked 18th overall in that year’s draft by the Knicks (though being drafted by the Knicks is more of a punishment than anything). Oh, and Shane’s dad (Austin uncle)? That’s only Barry Larkin, the Hall of Fame shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds. To make you feel REALLY old, Austin was born the year Barry Larkin was named NL MVP.
