Far be it for me to tell the NBA how to do things, but tonight before the Las Vegas Summer League has its championship game it released its rewards. Our own Caleb Swanigan was one fo five players selected to first team honors after averaging, you guessed it, a double-double.
That is good company to be in. especially when a few months ago Josh Jackson was part of the same Kansas team that smoked Caleb in his final college game. The real travisty of naming the MVP and all-league teams before the championship is that Lonzo Ball was named the summer league MVP.
Ball will not even play in tonight’s finale, but Swanigan will. So, even if Caleb goes nuts and drops a 35-20, Lonzo Ball will get the Summer League MVP.
Then again, this is the same league that insisted his production and being one of the three best players in all of college basketball was not good enough to be picked in the top 10, so what do I know. Just keep doing you, Caleb. Points and rebounds are still critically important to the outcome of a game instead of WAR or a lot of other advanced stats.
