We get two players today, as there are two No. 50s on the roster. Let’s start with the defense.
Keiwan Jones – Jr.
Ocala, FL (Dunnellon HS)
6’2”, 271 pounds
Defensive Tackle
2017 Projection: Reserve at Defensive Tackle
Keiwan Jones is one of those players that is in a bit of limbo as he enters his fourth year in the program. He was a three-star prospect in the 2014 recruiting class, but in three years so far he has not played at all. He redshirted in 2014, didn’t play in 2015, and if he saw any action last season he did not amass any statistics. He is also not on the projected two deep as we head into 2017.
What is frustrating is that he tore his ACL on the final day of training camp in 2015, then looked like he was going to be a major contributor last season. According to GBI he was battling for a starter’s spot, then mysteriously disappeared. What did he do to end up in Hazell’s doghouse to go from potential starter to not even playing at all when our defensive line was getting shredded game in, game out?
Regardless, Jones is looking for another shot this fall.
