52 Days to Purdue Football: Tanner Hawthorne

New, comment

The offensive lineman from Arizona is coming out of his redshirt season.

Offensive linemen coming out of a redshirt year often have the most physical transformation. The last we really saw them were as high school recruits, and after 18 months or so of training with a college weight staff they are ready to contribute. Today’s player is one such guy.

2017 Projection: Reserve on offensive line

Hawthorne came to Purdue as a champion. He was a two-time state champion in his final two seasons at Centennial HS in Glendale, Arizona. He was a second-team all-state selection as a senior, but that only led to being a two-star recruit.

Hawthorne projects as either a tackle or a guard, but probably does not project as a starter this year with the additions of Dave Steinmetz and Shane Evans. He can still develop into a quality reserve with an eye on starting some time in 2018.
