Finding information on walk-ons is hard to do sometimes, so hopefully I can do today’s player justice.
Sam Loebig – Fr. (RS)
Bethesda, MD (Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS)
6’3”, 315 pounds
Offensive Line
2017 Projection: Deep Reserve on Offensive Line
On paper, Loebig has the size to be a Big Ten offensive lineman. He joined the team as a walk-on this past fall and did not see any action, so officially it was a redshirt year. He was touted as a very good lineman for his local area in high school, however:
When I started doing these list I was very surprised at the number of BCC kids that started to appear. They quietly have some of the best talent in the county next year and the key to them making the playoffs might be Samuel Loebig. This kid has all of the makings of an elite offensive tackle. Samuel has long arms and great feet; you see him constantly reach block edge defenders on film. Would love to see more aggressiveness from him, but his athleticism makes up for that at times. This kid could be really special.
To walk-on from Maryland is pretty impressive, so it will be interesting to see what the staff can do with him. Here are some of his highlights from high school. Given Purdue’s tackle situation it is not outside the realm of possibility he develops into a solid player.
