Purdue Football Recruiting: Byron Perkins Commits

Purdue is now at 9 commitments for 2018.

The parade of commitments for Purdue continues tonight as Byron Perkins, a 6’2” 170 pound defensive back from Chicago became the 9th commitment for Jeff Brohm’s 2018 class.

Perkins is a 2-star according to Rivals, a 2-star on Scout, and a 3-star on 247. He comes to us from De La Salle Institute in Chicago, a school that was 5-4 last season as a private school on the south side of Chicago. Here are some highlights:

He is mostly a cornerback, but at 6’2” he has some massive size to play corner. Many corners are well under 6 feet tall, so a 6’2” corner is a nice matchup against bigger receivers. He had offers from Louisiana Tech, New Mexico, and Miami (OH), but was receiving some interest from Illinois, iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Notre Dame.

In terms of rankings, Purdue is currently 11th in the Big Ten according to Rivals and 247 both.
