Purdue and Jeff Brohm’s renewed focus on in state talent paid off today. Elijah Ball, a 6’1’’ 190 3* DB from Ben Davis High School (Indianapolis) committed to the Boilermakers. Ball holds offers from Cincinnati, Colorado St., and several M.A.C. schools.
Coach Holt has clearly shown a preference for tall, physical DB’s in this recruiting cycle, and Ball fits the mold perfectly. Purdue will be playing a good bit of zone behind an aggressive front 7, making tackling at the corner position vital. Ball not only shows solid coverage instincts, but is also good in run support, and has the size and desire to put a big hit on a receiver.
While Ball is an important get for Purdue on his own, his commitment is also an important sign that Purdue is back and active in the Indiana (Indianapolis specifically) recruiting scene. Pulling a player out of perennial Indiana powerhouse Ben Davis is a great sign for the health of Coach Brohm’s recruiting. I expect to see several other Indianapolis based players join Ball in the 2018 recruiting class.
This has been a great recruiting week for Purdue, and I have a feeling the next few weeks will be equally as active. Hey guys....this is starting to get fun again.
