Purdue Football Recruiting: Dave Steinmetz Commits as Grad Transfer

Jeff Brohm is still active on the graduate transfer market. Today he officially picked up his fourth such transfer for immediate help as Dave Steinmetz agreed to come aboard from the University of Rhode Island:

Steinmetz is an experienced starter who played in more than 30 games the past seasons for FCS Rhode Island. They play in the Colonial Athletic Association, one of the better FCS conferences out there, but it is still the FCS level. His team has gone a dismal 4-30 the last three seasons and it was smoked 55-6 last season at Kansas in its only FBS level game. their only wins have come over Brown, Elon, Delaware, and Towson the last four seasons.

Still, Purdue needs offensive linemen in the worst way and bringing in a 6’8”, 300 pound offensive tackle is not a terrible idea. Purdue’s situation is so dire that Steinmetz could be a starter from day one. He has primarily been a right tackle and Purdue looks to be set there with Matt McCann, but one of them could shift to left tackle, which is a gigantic question mark heading into the season.

Steinmetz has one season of eligibility remaining. FTR, that has Purdue five over the scholarship limit going into the summer according to my chart, so there will undoubtedly be attrition soon:
