It appears as if we are going to miss out on the D-2 transfer Yanni Wetzell.
Yanni Wetzell, a highly sought after 6'10 PF from New Zealand, is transferring to Vanderbilt. Played D2 at St. Mary's. Athletic and skilled.

He was a diamond in the rough, but I can’t blame him for wanting to go elsewhere if he was trying to make a quick decision. If he was waiting for the Biggie decision, he would have to wait 2 more weeks more than likely. Then, if Biggie comes back, he would be behind the 8 ball trying to figure out where to go.
I do think Yanni is very talented, but, losing out on a D-2 transfer is not the end of the world. He is talented and athletic, but I almost would prefer to have that scholarship for the loaded 2018 class. Or even better, have that scholarship for a national player of the year candidate in Caleb Swanigan.
He was going to have to sit a year out for us due to NCAA transfer rules anyway. In his highlights, he is fun to watch and you can tell he is raw. Many considered him one of the best young tennis players in New Zealand before beginning to focus on basketball.
Best of luck at Vanderbilt, Yanni!
