The frenzy that is the undrafted free agent period after the NFL Draft was beneficial today. Purdue saw its draft streak extended to 20 straight seasons when the Green Bay Packers picked DeAngelo Yancey. After the draft five more players signed undrafted free agent contracts:
Jordan Roos - Roos had a chance to get drafted, but once the draft was over he was able to ink a deal with the Seattle Seahawks. If he can make the roster he would be the second Boiler out there, joining Cliff Avril
Jason King - It is hard for an undrafted free agent to make a roster, but King has possibly the best shot as he signed with the defending champion New England Patriots. The Pats have been very, very happy with Purdue linemen int he past. Brandon Gorin and Gene Mruczkowski helped them win two Super Bowls and Matt Light won three. More recently, Rob Ninkovich helped tehm win two Super Bowls.
Cameron Posey - In a bit of a surprise move Posey was able to get a deal with the Carolina Panthers, where he will join Kawann Short, a former teammate of his. Posey had 39 receptions for 356 yards and 3 TDs this year and finished his career with 110 receptions for 1,096 yards and 8 TDs. He really came on after Darrell Hazell was let go, as he had only 12 catches for 93 yards and no scores in the first six games when Hazell was in charge.
Austin Appleby - I know he finished his career at Florida this past season, but Appleby was a Boilermaker for four years and has a Purdue degree. He parlayed his experience into a spot with the Dallas Cowboys, where he will join Anthony Brown, who just finished his rookie season there. He had his best college season this year by completing 60% of his passes for 1,447 yards and 10 TDs against 7 interceptions as a part-time starter. Over four seasons he had 4,224 yards and 29 TDs against 26 interceptions. Obviously, Dak Prescott has the starting job, but maybe Appleby can get a look as a cheap backup.
Domonique Young - Even after shredding his knee in the fifth game of the season at Illinois Domo is going to get a look. he signed with the New York Jets after the draft, but who knows how he will be limited after his injury. Before he was hurt he had 29 receptions for 338 yards and a touchdown. He had 50 receptions for 614 yards and 2 TDs in his two year career at Purdue, which lasted only 17 games. He also had a four yard rushing TD in 2015.
