He Gone: Basil Officially Transfers

Basil is headed south.

Basil is heading south to a pretty familiar opponent.

He will be attending Georgia State, who is coached by Ron Hunter, the former coach of IUPUI until 2011. Hunter has used his Indiana ties with a couple of transfers, last year was Jeremy Hollowell and now Basil.

Basil came in with the Kendall Stephens and Bryson Scott class, but chose to take a redshirt year after Caleb Swanigan came to campus last season. No one from this class stayed at Boilermaker for their entire career. There weren’t many minutes at the “3” spot between, Davis, Stephens and Mathias sometimes. But, beyond that, there were hardly any minutes at the “4” for him either, as 30+ were absorbed by Biggie instantly.

At the start of this season, he was suspended for breaking team rules. It was later released the breaking of team rules was getting pulled over while speeding with possession on illegal paraphernalia.

We were all rooting for Basil, the popular short video, “Cooking with Basil”, was a Twitter hit. He was a funny guy, posing in all pictures that they took. We all wanted him to be able to replace Davis as our “3” and next lock down defender, wellll, that never happened.

Basil had a decent amount of playing time at the start of the year, backing up both the “3” and the “4”, but that quickly diminished once B1G play started. He was an offensive liability. On the season, before getting kicked off, he averaged 3.9 Ppg and only 1.7 Rpg.

Rebounding is where we wanted the help from Basil, where his athleticism could be shown.

We have no real reason why Basil was kicked off the team, other than the violation of team rules, again. But he was given the boot before the team traveled to Nebraska. After that loss to Nebraska, our Boilermakers rattled off 6 straight wins, showing that the loss of Basil wasn’t all that huge.

I assume, with the transfer it is a graduate transfer, he was RS Junior, assuming he will get his degree isn’t out of the realm, hopefully he will be eligible to contribute to Ron Hunter’s team right away, and stay on course to get a grad degree as well.

Good luck, Basil. We will continue to root for you down south too.
