A scary moment here for a member of the Purdue football team. Andy Chelf, a redshirt sophomore who has yet to play in his time at Purdue, was shot early Sunday morning at approximately 3am:

West Lafayette police were called to a home in the 200 block of Wiggins Street around 3 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found Chelf with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Chelf was taken to an area hospital. We have not been able to confirm his condition as of Monday.

Chelf did let friends and family know via twitter he was alive Sunday afternoon, however:

This was a few hours after Chelf played a fair amount in the spring game on Saturday., He recovered a fumble and was credited with 7 tackles as mostly a member of the second team. he has already missed one season with a torn ACL in his time on campus, but this year he was expected to compete for playing time in the secondary.

We wish Andy a speedy recovery.
