We have a plethora of running backs. No one can argue that. Markell Jones, D.J. Knox, Richie Worship, Tario Fuller and Brian Lankford-Johnson all return for the 2018 season.
But we are getting older.
Markell will be a senior, Knox will be a senior, Richie, Tario and Lank will all be juniors as well. Who will be sophomores? A couple of walk ons, Alexander Horvath and Carter McGinnis. So, to say this is a position of need is an understatement.
Well, maybe we get someone special late into the recruiting trail.
Markese Stepp, a senior from Cathedral, decommitted from Notre Dame last week. This is great news for us, where an opportunity to play in 2019 would open up for him.
While Steve gives more insight on Twitter than most, it is behind a pay wall when he will visit. I guess it all depends on when Markese wants to wrap up his recruiting. DOes he want to be an early enrollee? If so, it will have to be in the next couple of weeks.
If he wants to wait and sign until February, then he could put this off until January. My guts says that he may be trying to wrap this up and he will probably visit before the end of the year.
Stepp is the real deal. He has offers from all over the country. The four star, top 250 prospect has offers from Purdue, IU, Alabama, USC, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, The U, and Wisconsin. Just to name a few.
Stepp is 6’, 210 power back, but he also has a burst that many other running backs do not have, according to his HUDL, he runs a 4.4 forty. He is ranked the 8th best RB in the nation.
Here is to hoping he will be wearing the black and gold in 2018.
