It’s game time! Purdue enters today’s game seeking its first bowl win over a major conference opponent since beating Washington in the 2002 Sun Bowl. Yes, it has been that long. Purdue lost bowl games to Georgia, Arizona State, Maryland, and Oklahoma State in that time, but at least we beat a pair of MAC teams in Detroit. Purdue also has not won a bowl game in the state of California, or any game for that matter, since 1970 at Stanford. It is the first game Purdue has played in the state of California since the 2001 Rose Bowl.
A victory would move Purdue to 10-8 all-time in bowl games. Entering tonight Purdue is only 3-7 in its last 10 postseason appearances, twice losing in overtime.
The only significant loss for Purdue tonight is Eddy Wilson, who did not travel with the team. Most players who missed the Indiana game, specifically Jared Sparks and Ja’Whaun Bentley, are expected to play.
