Eden Ewing Dismissed from Purdue Basketball

Eden Ewing, we hardly knew ye.

Obviously that is the vague descriptor that most programs use for any number of violations. Coach Painter has shown in the past (Korey Spates, Terrance Crump, Kelsey Barlow, D.J. Byrd) to be lenient with a first offense and give another chance, but we don’t know what else was going on here. Grades were also issued yesterday and Eden ended up at Purdue about a month later than expected because he had to finish up some summer classes for his junior college.

Ewing will finish at Purdue having played sparingly in the World University Games because of his late arrival and having played a grand total of 27 minutes in six games, scoring 10 points. honestly, a lot more was expected of him. he was supposed to bring athleticism and rebounding to the frontcourt and be immediately ready as a JuCo transfer. I even thought he could be a poor man’s Caleb Swanigan after he averaged 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds last season.

Unfortunately, it didn’t wok out. Grady Eifert seemed to take many of his minutes early in the season and Jacquil Taylor also took some. Going forward, those two were probably going to play more in that spot if needed anyway, and they have been the 9th and 10th men off the bench. I don’t think it gets Aaron Wheeler to the floor any sooner, either.

“It’s unfortunate that this didn’t work out for Eden and we wish him the best in his future plans,” Painter said.

This will open up a scholarship for the second half of the season and all of next year. Purdue now has three open spots for next season with three freshmen already coming in.
