It’s official, @bpj_vii is a Boilermaker! #BoilerUp #LetsPlayFootball pic.twitter.com/x4ltQqcZhR
— Purdue Football (@BoilerFootball) December 20, 2017
Name: Byron Perkins
Position/Size: Defensive Back (Corner), 6’2”, 180 Pounds
Ranking: 2*
Other Offers: LA Tech, Miami (OH), New Mexico
Impact: Perkins is exactly what Nick Holt wants with his defensive backs. A long and tall athlete. Perkins, at 6’2”, will come in and be one of the tallest corners that we have on the roster right away.
While Perkins did not have any other Power 5 offers outside of Purdue, he comes from Chicago, which is full of talent all over the city.
While he played corner in high school, with his size and speed, I could see a switch to safety. But, like I previously stated, Nick Holt loves to have tall corners, making it more difficult to pass on his defense.
Perkins is raw, but has clear talent. He has runs low 4.5 forty and also boasts a 38 inch vertical. He may be headed to a redshirt year, but he will have an impact at some point in his Purdue career.
Check out his highlights below.
Welcome aboard, Byron. Boiler Up!
