What’s the best thing about a bowl game? Is it more football? Extended practice time for younger players? A trip to a warm locale?
NOPE!
It’s the Swag! Each bowl game is allowed to give out free gifts to all players up to a value of $550. They can go to up to 125 participants per school, so everyone on the team gets some free shit.
Since Purdue hasn’t made a bowl game since 2012 our guys have missed out on this, but not this year! The annual bowl swag guide is out, and Purdue gets to reap the benefits:
Foster Farms Bowl, Arizona vs. Purdue: Fossil watch, Sony XB950N1 extra bass noise canceling headphones, Timbuk2 backpack, coin, $25 Apple iTunes gift card.
The headphones are pretty sweet and they retail for $179.99 at Best Buy right now. The cheapest men’s watch on Fossil comes in at $75. The Timbuk2 backpack is San Francisco-centric and comes in between $79 and $129. That leaves the gift card at $25 and the coin, which is likely a commemorative bowl coin with the team logos and such. It is better than the last bowl game (the Heart of Dallas Bowl) which had this:
Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank
Tues., Jan. 1, noon (ESPNU), Dallas
Gift suite
Note: Bowl committee said complete gift packages had not been finalized as of press time.
The Gift Suite is basically a private event where players can pick whatever they want up to $550.
Some other bowls had great lineups though:
Fiesta Bowl, Washington vs. Penn State: PlayStation PS4 PRO bundle, Fossil watch, Ogio backpack.
Quick Lane Bowl, Duke vs. NIU: $175 Best Buy gift card, JBL bluetooth headphones, life-sized Fathead decal for each participant of his likeness, Ogio backpack and tag, mini-helmet, hoodie, workout shorts, winter hat, vintage football.
Alamo Bowl, Stanford vs. TCU: Amazon Echo Show, $175 Amazon gift card, Fossil watch, mini-helmet, Rock 'Em socks, team panoramic photo. The Echo Shows are in the $200-300 range, so this isn’t a bad gift
More and more bowls are going straight to the gift suite, but this is still a nice perk for the players to get after a long season.
