It was definitely a bad hit. It probably should have been an upheld targeting call. It wasn’t Regardless, it looks like David Blough’s season is done per Gold and Black Illustrated:
Blough suffered a significant injury to his right leg in the fourth quarter and had to be carted off the field and into an ambulance. His junior season is over, with Purdue (4-5) still harboring hopes of a bowl berth. Now, the Boilermakers will have to reach those recently rare heights without their starting quarterback.
This isn’t a surprise, because according to reports Blough’s foot was pointing a way that a foot should not. We suspected he was done when he had to be carted off, but the captain was still waving to get the crowd going as he left the field. It has to be a tough injury too. He had been playing well, and now Elijah Sindelar gets a 3-4 game audtion for the starting job for next season when Blough will be a senior. Because of that, the significant portion of Blough’s career may be over if Sindelar secures the starting job for next year.
It doesn’t matter because David is a competitor and a leader. His heart got Purdue into it and Purdue closed the game out. He will close this season with 1,103 yards passing and 9 TDs against 4 picks. He also had 103 yards rushing and two more scores.
Heal up, David. Come back stronger next year.
