After not having a player win Offensive Player of the Week honors for over two years Purdue now has consecutive winners. Last week it was senior wide receiver Anthony Mahoungou for his 2 touchdown game in the win at Iowa. This week it is junior running back Markell Jones.

Jones was beastly on Saturday. While he was unable to get in the end zone, he ran over, around, and through the Indiana defense for a career high 217 yards after he had only 263 yards on the season coming in. It was the most rushing yards for a Purdue running back since Ralph Bolden in 2009 against Toledo and the most in a conference game since Montrell Lowe went for 200+ and a Bundy against Indiana in the 2000 Big Ten championship clincher.

Jones shares the award this week with Iowa’s Akrum Wadley. Not bad for a guy who wasn’t even the starter at the beginning of the year. Jones has now rushed for 291 yards int he last two games.
