Iowa is, as always, Our Most Hated Rivals. We do owe them a debt of gratitude, however. their sound first half beating last season on Homecoming in West Lafayette was Darrell Hazell’s final game as head coach. They got the moniker of being a coach killer as a result, and we thank them for it.
Otherwise, Purdue has lost four in a row to the Hawkeyes. Purdue also only has one victory in Iowa City since 1992. That came in 2012 when Robert Marve led a very late drive and Paul Griggs broke a tie with a long field goal as time expired. That is Purdue’s only win in the series in the last 10 years, as Iowa is 6-1 against Purdue since 2007. Purdue still leads the overall series 46-38-3 Thanks to winning 20 in a row back in the 60s and 70s, but since the early 80s Iowa is 21-7-1 against Purdue.
