I went through and bolded the teams that Purdue either will play or has a chance to play (it could play both Villanova and Arizona in the Bahamas), so we have plenty of chances to move higher. If Purdue were to win the Bahamas tournament (or even reach the final with a win over Villanova in round two) plus beat Louisville at home there is a very good chance we’ll enter conference play in the top 10. that’s a great way to avoid the dreaded 4/5 game in round 2 and a 1 seed in the Sweet 16.

The highest Purdue made it last season was 13th in the final regular season poll. Purdue was the most consistent team in America last year, going as high as 13 and no lower than 23rd. Most of the year was spent between 15 and 18, however, and Purdue was 15th in the preseason.

Purdue was last in the top 10 in 2015-16 when it got as high as 9 at 11-0 before losing to Butler in the Crossroads Classic. Purdue has now been in every poll since the start of the 2015-16 season, and in 339 polls overall. The 340 appearances is 23rd all-time and our continued existence in the polls this year will allow us to move up on that list past North Carolina State (340 polls), Iowa (341 polls), and Connecticut (344 polls).

Purdue was in 64 straight polls from 2008-11 with the Hummel-Moore-Johnson crew. With only 19 polls a year we have to be ranked into next year to approach that record.

For the record, Purdue is also 21st in the coaches’ poll.
