It’s that time of year.

No, we still have three weeks until tip-off, but Boiler fans know this time of year just as well. It’s the annual, WE’RE SO OVERRATED IT’S NOT EVEN FUNNY HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED A GAME OF BASKETBALL IN YOU’RE LIFE WE’RE AWESOME time of year.

USA Today’s coaches poll kicks it off, with the Boilermakers coming in at #21 in the preseason poll. The Boilermakers will return four starting seniors for a team that won the Big Ten by two games, but the loss of Caleb Swanigan hangs over the popular narrative as it probably should. Caleb Swanigan was a finalist for National Player of the Year after wreaking havoc on the Big Ten last year before being drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round.

Michigan State is the highest ranked Big Ten opponent. They come in at #2 behind the Coach K’s Blue Devils. Minnesota is ranked 15th, while the Northwestern Wildcats come off their first NCAA tournament appearance with the 20th ranking.

Lots of Big Ten teams received votes: Wisconsin, Maryland, and Michigan.

No mention of Indiana, just because.

Purdue’s non-conference looks to have the potential to have two match-ups against top-10 teams. Arizona starts the season as #5 in the nation and Louisville is ranked #16.
