For the 18th straight season Purdue will have a representative in the Super Bowl. For the 14th time in those 18 years a Boilermaker will finish the season as a Super Bowl champion. Now that we know that the title game will be Atlanta against New England there is a Purdue player on each roster.
Ricardo Allen - S - Atlanta Falcons - Rico has been fantastic in the playoffs for Atlanta. He has had an interception in both games as the Falcons have rolled to easy wins over Seattle and Green Bay. This is Rico’s first Super Bowl in his second season in the league. He did not play as a rookie in 2014, but he was on the practice squad. He has earned hte starting job at safety and has five regular season interceptions and 158 tackles to go with his two playoff interceptions this year. If Atlanta wins he will be the 24th different Boilermaker to win a Super Bowl.
Rob Ninkovich - DE - New England Patriots - Ninkovich will be playing in his third Super Bowl and he already has won one, winning Super Bowl XLIX a few years ago with the patriots. He played a huge role today in causing a big fumble during the New England-Pittsburgh game. A New England victory would put him with the following former Purdue players that have won MULTIPLE Super Bowls:
Dave Butz (2)
Rosevelt Colvin (2)
Tim Foley (2)
Brandon Gorin (2)
Bob Griese (2)
Matt Light (3)
Gene Mruczkowski (2)
Keena Turner (4)
Personally, I would like to see Atlanta because Rico is one of my favorite Boilers of all-time. He deserves it after the awful 1-11 season his senior year.
