2017 Purdue Football Recruiting: Corey Winfield to Visit

We all know Purdue needs a lot of help in football. Recently, the following five members of the 2017 recruiting class were early enrollees as either JuCo transfers or early HS graduates:

Tyler Hamilton - Freshman 4-star Wide Receiver from South Carolina

Kai Higgins - Sophomore JuCo defensive end that has three years of eligibility remaining.

Jalen Jackson - Freshman offensive lineman from Georgia

T.J. Jallow - Junior JuCo safety that is one of the top-rated JuCo safeties in the nation per ESPN.

Ethan Smart - Junior JuCo offensive lineman from Mississippi.

All five of these players are expected to be the first wave of immediate help. There might be another experienced coming to join them too.

Corey Winfield - CB - Winfield will graduate from Syracuse and transfer out according to Syracuse.com. he has one year of eligibility remaining, but Purdue can definitely use him at corner. He is a two-year starter that had 41 tackles this past season and he has three interceptions in his career. the 6’1” corner would almost certainly be a starter this coming season along with Da’Wan Hunte. he is even visiting this weekend in what is a big recruiting weekend for us:

This would not be the first time football has added a grad transfer. Elliott hood transferred from Vanderbilt to Purdue for his final season in 2007 and was a starter on the offensive line under Joe Tiller.

Purdue could also use the help because it appears that Myles Norwood, who would have been a senior cornerback, has been removed from the roster due to concussion issues. As of right now Brandon Roberts and Martesse Patterson, two former starters who have been in limbo for a while, are still on the roster.
