Last week Purdue knocked off #4 Kansas 3-1 for one of its biggest volleyball wins ever. This came merely a week after knocking off #9 Stanford on its home floor in a match where Purdue trailed 2-0. So far Purdue has proved it is a volleyball team much better than we originally though, and on the eve of Big Ten play starting tomorrow the nation is recognizing that with a top 10 ranking:
There are our Boilers at No. 10 nationally and well in line to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the Boiler Box. Should they reach the Sweet 16 the Regionals are held at Texas, San Diego, Des Moines, and Lexington (with Kentucky being the only team to beat Purdue so far).
As usual, the Big Ten is brutal when it comes to the schedule. Nebraska-Minnesota-Wisconsin go 1-2-3 in the rankings with Nebraska being a unanimous No. 1 so far. Ohio State at 17 and Penn State at 18 are also strong, While Michigan State is at 20 and Michigan is at 22. Illinois received votes and is just outside the top 25 at No. 28.
The hope for a conference title lies with feasting on Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, Iowa, and Northwestern. Purdue only has 7 matches against those teams.
This is also the team's highest ranking since reaching No. 8 in September 2014.
