Good Day for Darrell Hazell Replacements

Only one of Hazell’s likely replacements lost today.

NCAA Football: North Dakota State at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

If you are like us and you believe that Darrell Hazell’s days are numbered in West Lafayette, it was a good day for his potential replacements. Earlier this week we conducted an official and scientific poll to determine who would replace Dollar Bill Darrell. With more than 2250 votes we now have a hierarchy of who you readers prefer. Here is how they did today:

1100 votes – Kevin Sumlin – Texas A&M – The likelihood of Sumlin coming to West Lafayette diminished significantly because the Aggies won their SEC opener over Auburn 29-16. That is a road win over an SEC team which, I am lead to believe, is one of the most difficult things to accomplish in humanity. Of course, TAMU fans are insane when it comes to football, so if the Aggies don’t convert a first down fast enough they will want to fire him.

340 votes – P.J. Fleck – Western Michigan – Fleck now has the same number of wins this season alone that Darrell Hazell has in his entire Purdue career over Big Ten teams. They squeezed out a 1-point win over Northwestern to start the year, but today they kicked the living crap out of Illinois 34-10. On the one hand, Fleck has a good recruiting class lined up and may now have an undefeated season on his hands. On the other, he lost to Hazell head-to-head to start the 2014 season.

329 votes – Jeff Brohm – Western Kentucky – The WKU offense was held in check by Miami (OH), but “held in check” still meant 31 points in a 31-24 win on the road. They still lead 31-17 before a late touchdown by the Redhawks made it closer and the Hilltoppers were able to recover the onside. WKU is 2-1 with their lone loss to some team named Alabama.

275 votes – Brock Spack – Illinois State – Let’s keep rolling it back to the early 2000s for those that want Brock Spack. Actually, this is Morgan’s Biggest Regret because he should have hired him in 2009. The Redbirds fell off this week after beating Northwestern last week. They lost 24-21 in a rivalry game (the Mid-America Classic) with Eastern Illinois 24-21.

84 votes – Chris Klieman - North Dakota State – Just don’t schedule North Dakota State. Don’t do it. It is a terrible idea. They will take their guarantee money and beat your ass. The Bisons scored late and went for 2, but failed. That meant they were still losing 21-20 at Iowa. They shook that off, got a stop, then drove for the winning field goal as time expired. NDSU us a Death Star in FCS.

158 votes – Art Briles – not coaching because he was likely complicit in covering up sexual assault - NO!
