Welp, so much for that. Time to go looking elsewhere as Jaren Jackson Jr. has committed to Michigan State according to ESPN:
"I didn't plan it this way," Jackson said. "I have done all my homework on each school ... and discussed everything with my family, and the timing just happened to land on my birthday," Jackson said. "When you have a Hall of Fame coach like Tom Izzo, it makes a statement about the program.”
I’m sorry, everyone:
There are still several solid prospects on the board as Purdue is pursuing Nojel Eastern, Xavier Tillman, and Evan Battey in addition to a wealth of bigs. This one stings, however, as Jackson is an in-state player and reportedly coach Painter handled his recruitment extremely well. I guess we really are always the bridesmaid here. It also stings to lose him to another team within the conference.
We will pick ourselves up, however, and we wish Jaren nothing but the best. I can only imagine how hard a decision like this is. Jaren is a good, down to earth kid that handled his recruitment with a lot of class because he did not want a lot of hoopla involved in the process. I wish a kid like that well.
