The game notes for this coming week have been released and that means our first official Depth Chart of the year:

25 Tario Fuller, R-Fr., 6-0, 192, Sugar Hill, Ga.

or

37 Brian Lankford-Johnson, Fr., 6-0, 195, St. Paul, Minn.

Some offensive notes:

  • Lankford-Johnson beats our Worship and Green to get some carries as a true freshman. It looks like he will almost certainly avoid a redshirt.
  • I prefer Jalen Neal and Cameron Cermin at tackle, but I really hope Patterson and McCann work out.
  • McCann and Barron are the only first time offensive starters.

Defense

DT

54 Jake Replogle, Sr., 6-5, 289, Centerville, Ohio

59 Langston Newton, 5th, 6-3, 278, Indianapolis, Ind.

NG

18 Eddy Wilson, So., 6-4, 300, Pontiac, Mich.

66 Alex Criddle, Fr., 6-4, 309, Broken Arrow, Okla.

DE

95 Evan Panfil, Sr., 6-5, 270, New Lenox, Ill.

56 Wyatt Cook, R-Fr., 6-2, 240 Westminster, Md.

DE

45 Austin Larkin, Jr., 6-3, 259, University City, Mo.

13 Gelen Robinson, Jr., 6-1, 275, Schererville, Ind.

Will

21 Markus Bailey, R-Fr., 6-1, 235, Columbus, Ohio

42 Andy James Garcia, 5th, 6-0, 223, Miami, Fla.

Mike

4 Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jr., 6-2, 250 Clenarden, Md.

16 Garrett Hudson, Jr., 6-2, 245, Tallahassee, Fla.

Buck 36 Danny Ezechukwu, Jr., 6-2, 240, Lithonia, Ga.

29 Jimmy Herman, 5th, 6-4, 240, Carmel, Ind.

LCB

2 Da’Wan Hunte, Jr., 5-9, 188, Miami, Fla.

24 Tim Cason, 5-11, 195, Clarkston, Mich.

SS

3 Leroy Clark, Sr., 5-10, 197, Miami, Fla.

7 Robert Gregory, 5th, 6-1, 225, Chicago, Ill.

FS

27 Navon Mosley, Fr., 6-0, 181, West Bloomfield, Mich.

26 C.J. Parker, Jr., 6-2, 205, Menifee, Calif.

RCB

6 Myles Norwood, Jr., 6-0, 174, Arlington, Texas

23 Josh Hayes, Fr., 6-4, 181, Indianapolis, Ind.

Some defensive notes:

  • Purdue is definitely going with a youth movement here. There are three true freshmen in the two-deep (Mosley, Criddle, and Hayes).
  • Speaking of Hayes, a surprise with him. Norwood had been battling Tim Cason and Kamal Hardy for that spot. Hayes is a true freshman from Pike in Indianapolis.
  • This depth chart assumes a 4-3 front, while Purdue will more likely be a in a 4-2-5 nickel package with Brandon Roberts on the field in place of Ezechukwu against spread teams.
  • Larkin, Bailey, Mosley, Norwood, and Wilson are first time starters. Hunte and Roberts started a few games last year, but are relative newcomers.
  • Parker, Hayes, Cook, and Criddle all have exactly zero playing experience at this level.

Finally, we have Special Teams:

Specialists

Punter

31 Joe Schopper, So., 6-0, 196, Indianapolis, Ind.

96 Jake Herr, R-Fr., 6-5, 220, Carmel, Ind.

Placekicker

85 J.D. Dellinger, Fr., 6-2, 190, Charlotte, N.C.

43 Myles Homan, R-Fr., 6-1, 220, Cincinnati, Ohio

Kickoffs

85 J.D. Dellinger, Fr., 6-2, 190, Charlotte, N.C.

or

43 Myles Homan, R-Fr., 6-1, 220, Cincinnati, Ohio

Long Snapper

65 Ben Makowski, So., 6-2, 252, Osceola, Ind.

48 Ryan Sadkowski, 5-11, 260, Glen Ellyn, Ill.

Holder

31 Joe Schopper, So., 6-0, 196, Indianapolis, Ind.

11 David Blough, So., 6-1, 200, Carrollton, Texas

Kickoff Returns

9 Malik Kimbrough, Jr., 6-0, 172, San Jacinto, Calif.

37 Brian Lankford-Johnson, Fr., 6-0, 195, St. Paul, Minn.

Punt Returns

9 Malik Kimbrough, Jr., 6-0, 172, San Jacinto, Calif.

18 Cameron Posey, 5th, 6-1, 192, Boca Raton, Fla.

Notes:

  • No surprise here. Kimbrough was brought in specifically to be a returner. Lankford-Johnson is simply too fast NOT to play somewhere.
  • The kickoff position is a concern, but I am betting Homan and Dellinger will use this week to hash it out.
  • Dellinger, Kimbrough, and Lankford-Johnson are all newcomers, while Homan is a walk-on.
