20 Days to Purdue Football: David Rose and Benaiah Franklin

A couple of freshman players are looking to make their mark in 2016.

NCAA Football: Indiana State at Purdue Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

This Sunday we have two more freshmen as most of the days remaining are double player days. As usual, we have one offensive player and one defensive player.

David Rose – Fr. (RS)

Temple Hills, Md (Potomac HS)

6’, 180 pounds

Cornerback

2016 Projection: potential contributor at cornerback

Rose is a bit of an interesting player coming into this season. Somehow, he played in five different games last season, but was able to hold on to his redshirt. He ended with only one stat: he defended one pass in those five games.

Still, he has some live experience at a position where Purdue needs it. He unfortunately made more of a name for himself because he was arrested for removing locks from bicycles at the MSEE building. Hopefully, he has some much better memorable moments this season.

Benaiah Franklin – Fr.

Marietta, GA (Wheeler, HS)

6’1”, 205 pounds

Wide Receiver

2016 Projection: Likely redshirt

With a glut of senior receivers on the roster it seems like Franklin is headed toward a redshirt year. He is still a promising prospect that could factor more into next season, when the Boilers will need some newcomers to play immediately. He was a three-star commit out of Georgia and stats were hard to find on him. Only one game was tracked by MaxPreps in his senior year, but he reportedly rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns in said game.

We still expect him as a receiver, and his ability to move in space is a definite positive.
