91 Days to Purdue Football: Chazmyn Turner

Can someone, anyone provide a pass rush? Maybe Chazmyn Turner can.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

We have heard the phrase before: "Project Defensive End". It is almost slang in recruiting for "This guy could possibly develop into a dominant defensive end. He also could be a tall, skinny guy that never plays. Today's player in the countdown is a project defensive end coming out of his redshirt year, so let's learn more about him.

2016 Projection: Possible Contributor at Defensive end

It is not a secret that Purdue needs a pass rush in the worst way. The last two years the Den of Defensive Ends has been hibernating, as our leader in sacks has had only four. We desperately need a disruptive pass rush from someone, anyone. Turner might be able to fulfill that role as no one has really broken away from the pack yet.

Turner was an all-conference player in high school, and that was good enough to be a high 2-star/low 3-star player by most recruiting services. Unfortunately, he made headlines the wrong way during his redshirt year. In October he was arrested with weed on him, which is pretty minor, but still illegal in Indiana.

It is pretty simple for a guy like Turner: He needs to bust his ass and prove the recruiting services wrong. If he does, Purdue will benefit.
