Purdue now has a fourth commitment in the class of 2017 as Illinois defensive back Mitch West announced his commitment today. West is a 5'10" 175 defensive back from Montini HS in Lombard, Illinois. He is known mostly for his speed, as GBI has repeatedly said he ran a sub-4.5 40 at the North Central College satellite camp, which earned him a scholarship offer from the coaches on site.
So excited to announce I've committed to Purdue University! #BoilerUp pic.twitter.com/jxxvilah14

The offers... are not thrilling. Purdue is his first FBS offer outside of FCS powers Illinois State, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State. Boston College had high interest but has not offered as of yet.
You can view West's highlight reel here, but he is unrated by every major recruiting service out there. He plays wide receiver in addition to cornerback, but he seems to have good tackling instincts to go along with excellent speed.
In 2014 Montini was the Class 6A state runner up with West playing extensively as a sophomore. They lost 29-14 to Sacred Heart-Griffin in the title game in Champaign to finish 10-4. Last season his team completed the perfect season by going 14-0 and winning the 5A title 38-15 over Crete-Monee. West rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on the season while grabbing 11 receptions for 223 yards and three scores. He led the team with 60 tackles and grabbed three interceptions.
