84 Days to Purdue Football: Jess Trussell

We have a big ol' Texas boy as a useful tight end.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

In just 12 weeks from today we will be sitting (okay, just me and about 12 other people) in Ross-Ade Stadium awaiting the kickoff against Eastern Kentucky. Yeah, this is probably the least amount of excitement I have felt for a Purdue football season, but there is still excitement. Maybe we get to see something surprising happen. One of the players that can help in that surprise is today's tight end.

Tight End

2016 Projection: Reserve at Tight End

It is the good, old fashioned big ol' Texas boy at tight end. As with most TEs, Trussell is tall and is trying to put on some weight to be more of a contributor. He was a three-star prospect in the 2015 class and he caught 23 passes for an impressive 493 yards and 7 TDs as a senior. Those are some really good numbers for a team that was 10-3 and reached its regional final in its class in Texas.

Trussell should be an interesting player considering we could use a second tight end behind Cole Herdman. He clearly put up good numbers for a good HS team, so it would be nice to get him some PT this year.
