Well, there is struggling might be too light of a word. After two rounds at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon the Boilers are in 30th place out of 30 teams. Purdue has shot a +44 through two rounds. There first round was a +19 which was the worst first round of all 30 teams. Today the Boilers struggled to a +25, also the worst round. They sit five strokes behind 29th place UAB going into the final round. UAB also shot a +25 today. UAB is 10 shots behind 28th place Baylor.
Individually Purdue is led by Stuart Macdonald, who is at +10 in 119th place. Brian Carlson and Jarle Volden are at +12, while Fernando Barco is at +13. The individual leader is Justin Suh of USC at -5.
Purdue has a very, very long way to go on Sunday to make the top 8 and reach championship match play. Illinois and Texas are tied for 8th place at +10. The overall leader through two rounds is Vanderbilt at +3 as a team. To get to the fourth and final round on Monday Purdue must get into the top 15 by the end of the day on Sunday. Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, and San Diego State are all currently tied for 15th place at +15, so Purdue has a long way to go.
