Purdue Men's Golf Advances to NCAA Championships

They nearly Purdue'd, but the men's golf team will return to the NCAA championships in 2016.

That was close.

Heading into today the men's golf team was in third place heading into the final day of the Stillwater Regional. It meant hat the Boilers would play in the final group with leaders Oklahoma State and Oklahoma with a great chance to advance to the NCAA Championships. Purdue was 10 shots ahead of the cut line, as the top five teams in the regional would advance to next week's championships.

Purdue being Purdue, they nearly Purdue'd, and you know what I mean.

It was generally an awful day for our Boilermakers. They slipped to fifth place behind Louisville and Clemson with a +20 and needed a par on the final par 5 hole to slip through by two strokes over Augusta. The +20 was the 9th best team score on the day from the 14 teams, but it was good enough to advance.

The Championships will involve 30 teams next week in Eugene, Oregon. After four rounds of stroke play the top 8 will advances to a match play single elimination tournament.
