Chukwuebuka Enekwechi Named B1G Field Athlete of the Year

Big Chuk also repeats at the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is a very large dude that can throw things very, very far. He is good at it. So good that he is the best int he Big Ten for two years running. Today he took home some major postseason honors as he prepares to go to the NCAA Championships in a few weeks.

For the third straight season he is the Big Ten champion in the hammer throw. He was the runner-up in the weight throw, and as a result, he was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Meet as well as the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year.

It is the third straight year he has pulled off the double. He scored 18 points for Purdue in the Championships and, when you add up what he did during his career in the indoor season, he scored 109 points in his career. Nationally he is the No. 2 thrower in the shot put and No. 10 in the hammer. For good measure he has been named Athlete of the week 16 times in his career.

In addition the the NCAA Championships in June in Eugene, Oregon Enekwechi has a chance to represent Nigeria in a little thing called the Olympics in Rio. The minimum qualification for the shot put to compete in Rio is 20.50 meters and his season best is 20.37 meters. He has thrown 24.39 for the Purdue school record in his career. In the hammer throw he needs to throw at least 77 meters, and for the year his best is 70.04 meters. he set the Purdue record last year with a mark of 72.77 meters.
