This week we have a Purdue team playing well in the NCAA tournament for once. The Purdue's men's golf team qualified as the No. 6 seed in the Stillwater Regional at Oklahoma State this week. It is one of six regionals around the country and the top 5 teams will advance to the NCAA championships hosted by the University of Oregon. The regionals run through tomorrow and the top 3 individuals will also advance that are not on a team.
After round 1 yesterday Purdue, ranked 31st nationally, was in fifth place at +15 for the tournament. If that holds it would have the Boilers returning to the NCAA championships next weekend.
Purdue freshman Jarle Volden was in fifth place overall yesterday with a +1 73 on the course. So far today the Boilers are hanging in tied for fourth as a team. Host Oklahoma State is running away on its home course, but Purdue is at a +23 right now, tied for fourth.
