There are plenty of jokes to be made here about lipstick on pigs, Purdue and Oregon comparisons, and so on and so forth. I'm going to avoid those and simply talk about the new uniforms as they are. Overall first impression is that I really like them. I think they look crisp and clean and show continued improvement with the relationship between Purdue and Nike. If only Nike could understand what size small means when they sell a shirt we would be in business. But I digress. The best way for you to get a look at the uniforms is to head over to the official website dubbed Focus, Fight, Finish and have a look around. That way you get to see all the angles, all the nuances, and all the changes that have been made for this upcoming season.
My friends and I had a saying in college that when interview time came around you would go out and get a haircut in order to get "new hair cut confidence" and that's what this seems to be for Purdue. If you listened to the most recent podcast you know that Drew is doing his best to get us all amped about the prospect of Purdue football finally turning that elusive corner. I don't know if that's going to happen but certainly there's something to be said for looking good having an impact on someone's confidence. It doesn't much matter if you're the less talented player but if this can do anything to get the player's heads on straight I'm all for it. Am I reaching here? Absolutely I am. We all just want some good news for Purdue football and to me this is good.
A large portion of the fanbase likes to dump on Purdue for not getting with the times and keeping up with the rest of the conference, but I have to say I think the announcement and tease of these new uniforms was fantastic. Purdue teased this announcement with small pictures of the uniforms on instagram culminating in the post below that gave us all a first glimpse at the uniforms.
To me this is just superbly well done. It gives you a great idea of what the uniforms look like but also points you toward the website so you can get a better look and investigate all the details. I'm not sure if Focus, Fight, and Finish are actual names representing the specific uniforms but if so I like that idea. The all white uniforms are Focus. The black jersey with gold pants combo is Fight and the grey/silver/black combo uniform would then be Finish. I generally don't like the grey look for Purdue, I think the grey basketball jerseys have a lot of work to be done, but I really enjoy this look Nike has created. If I had to choose I would go Black and Gold, Grey, all White. What about you? Sound off in the comments and vote in the poll below to let us know what your favorite one is.
