Purdue is finally on the board with its first 2017 football commit, and it is a legacy! Quarterback Griffin Alstott from Northside Christian in St. Petersberg, Florida has agreed to be a Boilermaker.

Yes, this is Mike Alstott's son.

Griffin is listed at 6'2" 195 pounds and is a 2-star dual threat quarterback currently according to Rivals. Northwester, Indiana, and West Virginia were programs that have shown interest. Tampabay.com had a good article on him earlier this month:

Alstott has been the starting quarterback at Northside Christian for the past two seasons. At 6-foot-2 and nearly 200 pounds, he has the build and arm strength to attract the attention of college coaches. He threw for 1,725 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior.

He seems like a rising player before his senior season. Of course, having the name Alstott back on campus is also very, very nice. Here are his highlights.

We're still really early in the recruiting process for 2017, but it is nice to be on the board. Technically Purdue has two 2017 commits, as Jackson Anthrop is greyshirting, so his eligibility clock will not start until the fall of 2017.
