It's a small possibility that Notre Dame may be using this as a stepping stone to only exclusively competing in the Big Ten, rather than being spread across a myriad of conferences for different sports. If we're talking TV market, Notre Dame is a far better add than Rutgers and Maryland since Notre Dame has a nationwide audience. It makes sense both financially and from an exposure point of view for the B1G.
