SOUTH REGION:

#5 Maryland vs. #12 South Dakota St.

Maryland gets the unlucky five spot, facing off against the 26-7 Jackrabbits from South Dakota St. SDS is ranked 80th in kenpom's rating system and won the Summit League Tournament. SDS faced one Big Ten team this season - kind of - and pulled off a victory against the Golden Gophers 84-70 early in the season - pre-twitter sex video suspensions. The player to watch for SDS is Mike Daum, a 6-9 freshman who averages 15 points a game and six rebounds, shooting 45% from 3 and 56% from the field overall.

#7 Iowa vs. #10 Temple

As for Iowa, they actually draw Kenpom's 86th ranked Owls team from Temple. Temple is a tough-minded defense with a defense ranked 52nd best by Kenpom. The Owls lost in their tournament to UConn 77-62 in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament. It's going to be an interesting matchup of style with Temple having the 275th slowest adjusted tempo in the NCAA against Iowa's top 25 most efficient offenses in the country. Iowa, one of the hottest teams in the country in the beginning of the season, has lost 5 of their last 6 games including being upset by Illinois in the B10 tournament.
