2017 Purdue Football Recruiting: Tyler Hamilton Commits

Purdue picks up a 4-star wide receiver. That is not a typo.

In some of the most surprising news yet Purdue has picked up a football commitment in the midst of its uncertain coaching situation. What’s even more surprising is that he is a 4-star prospect.

Scout is the one making this announcement, and they have him listed as a 3-star prospect. Rivals also has him as a 3-star prospect, but ESPN has him as a 4-star according to their ranking and the No. 30 WR in the nation. This makes him Purdue’s highest rated commitment.

Hamilton is a 5’9” 168 pound receiver from Hilton Head, SC that had Purdue and Pittsburgh as his final two schools. He was also offered by Arizona, Clemson, Missouri, Tennessee, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Texas. All of his highlights can be found here. He is a slippery, elusive receiver that is good at making people miss.

This is a huge surprise, to say the least. We have no idea who the coach will be next season, but with the top four receivers all graduating there will be jobs open at receiver. The only players returning with experience at receiver next season are Gregory Phillips, Anthony Mahoungou, Jarrett Burgess, Malik Kimbrough, and Terrance Landers. Of those, Phillips has the most experience with 16 receptions this year, and he has more in his career than every other receiver on the roster combined.
