Women's Basketball Inks Four 2017 Recruits

Coach Versyp has announced 4 signed letters of intent for next season.

Three of the four incoming recruits from the class of 2017 have an international flavor, and the fourth has a good bloodline as the daughter of a former player.

Leony Boudreau, a 5-10 combo guard from Dawson College in Montreal, Canada.

She is a three sport athlete, a hard worker, and should come in ready to contribute from the get go.  A good shooter from both 2 and 3 point range, she has a pass first mentality and looks to set up her teammates.  She has excellent ball handling skills and a high basketball IQ.

Tamara Farquhar, a 6-0 wing, a teammate of Boudreau out of Montreal Canada.

A very athletic wing  that Coach V has been recruiting for some time, she has the complete package on both offense and defense, and will be a great player at the 3 position.  With Bridget Perry graduating after this season, Farquhar will really be an asset to complement Andreona Keys, only with a longer wingspan.  She is ranked as the No. 4 overall player in Canada by Crown Scout Girls and will come in and make an immediate impact on the team.

Fatou Diagne, a 6-5 center from  Gulf Coast State College (JuCo) in Panama City, Florida.

From Senegal, the same country of origin as former player Aya Traore, Diagne will bring a lot of athleticism and size to the post.  She is known for a reliable hook shot that is rare in women's college basketball and nearly impossible to block.

Dani Lawson, a 6-2 post player from Cleveland, Ohio

The daughter of former Purdue player Kay Tucker Lawson, she brings a solid body to the post.  She has excellent footwork and can create her own shot in close.  She has been verballed to Purdue since her freshman year of high school.

While these 4 players are not as highly ranked (as in the top 50) in the Hoopgurlz rankings as some of our recent recruits, they all will bring unique skill sets and have been carefully recruited as players who will complement the  players already on the team and fit in with the Purdue system.

We may have another available scholarship, and are holding out hope for Hoopgurlz recruit number 5, Sidney Cooks, who will announce her school of choice next week.  She is the tallest player in the top ten at 6-4 and would make a big time asset to the team.  We all know how these recruiting things go, but she has not eliminated Purdue from her list.

The regular season kicks off at the Maine Tip-Off event Friday at 5 PM against Maine University.  You may remember that Coach Versyp was the head coach at Maine and led them to one appearance in the NCAA tournament before going to IU for a year then to our Purdue team.  I believe you will be able to watch this game streamed on ESPN3 as well as the Saturday night game vs. Mississippi State or Villanova.  Either of those teams will provide an early test, especially MSU who is currently ranked #10 in the AP Poll.  The Saturday game is also at 5 pm.
