Purdue Football Recruiting - All Smiles for Smiley - Simeon Smiley commits

Purdue added Simeon Smiley, a 3*,  6'0, 190 pound DB from Florida over the weekend. Smiley is a huge pick up for the Boilermakers, as DB coach Taver Johnson continues to put together a solid defensive back class for the Boilermakers. Smiley chose Purdue over offers from schools like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Louisville.

Smiley has ideal size for a cornerback in today's game. He has the size to play man-to-man against bigger outside receivers and he can help stop the quick run and pass game. As an added bonus, Smiley is an excellent kick returner, using his size and speed to bust big returns. In an otherwise disappointing class, Purdue's best prospects mostly reside in the secondary. If Purdue can hold onto Brandon Shuman, Josh Hayes and Navon Mosely, the Boilers will have two solid defensive back classes stacked back to back. Purdue should be able to play more man-to-man defense and less tissue paper soft zone with the change in personnel and coaching from last season. I hope I see less 10 yard cushions 3rd and 5 this season. Now, if we can just find someone to cover the tight end over the middle we might be in business.
