Notes:
There are a lot of freshmen - Ben Makowski is the only listed freshman as a starter, but as backups there are several players making their first appearance. Markell Jones, David Rose, Markus Bailey, Joe Schopper, and Michael Mendez are on there as true freshman backups. Martesse Patterson, Cole Herdman, David Blough, Tim Cason, and Brandon Roberts appear as redshirt freshmen.
First Starts - Domonique Young, Jordan Jurasevich, D.J. Knox, Robert Gregory, Antoine Miles, and Makowski are making their first starts.
Surprises:
Danny Anthrop - I am very surprised he beat out Frankie Williams as a punt returner, both because of the injury concern and because Williams was already damn good last year.
Langston Newton - The junior transfer from Kentucky makes his first ever appearance on the two-deep.
Evan Pulliam - Backing up our best linebacker and most important defender in Bentley is a junior walk-on. Yikes.
Overall there is depth on the offensive and defensive lines but Purdue is paper thin at linebacker and in the secondary. The starters there are solid, but the reserves are gigantic question marks.
