Purdue is undefeated for 2015-16!

Okay, it is still early and most of the sports teams haven't played a game yet, but the 2015-16 sports season for Purdue got underway this weekend as the women's soccer program hosted Ohio and Xavier in the first two games of the year. There was beautiful weather at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex and there were great promotions to get new students already in town for BGR and early move-ins to come out and watch some metric football.

Friday night the opponent was Ohio, and the Boilers got a shutout thanks to goalie Erika Yohn. Yohn only had to make a pair of saves, and neither of those came in the second half as Purdue outshot Ohio 24-9. Junior Maddy Williams needed only six minutes to get Purdue on the board, and she added a second goal in the 49th minute. Sophomore Andrea Petrina scored in the 90th minute for the final tally. It was the first goal of her Boilermaker career.

On Sunday against Xavier the fans were treated to a wild game. Purdue outshot Xavier 27-4, but three of the four shots found the back of the net for the Musketeers. Hannah Leinert got her first career goal in the 16th minute when she stole a goal kick and scored to put Purdue up 1-0. Five minutes later Williams got her third goal of the weekend and Purdue was cruising.

Xavier then scored three straight times in 20 minutes, one of which came from the penalty spot to take a 3-2 lead. Williams tied it in the 85th minute and the game-winner came from Sophomore Nicole Robinson in the 89th minute.

Purdue will host Baylor and MIssouri this weekend as part of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup.
