17 Days to Purdue Football: Fred Brown

A project of a defensive tackle is today's featured player.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Since handing over the reins of recruiting to a few other writers I haven't followed our new guys as much. That's why when I saw who was up on the countdown today I was like, "Who?"

Fred Brown - Fr.

Boutte, LA (Hahnville HS)

6'1", 260 pounds

Defensive Tackle

2015 Projection: Likely Redshirt

Brown, like many freshman defensive tackles, is a developmental player. He is a 2-star recruit that had 83 tackles, 10 sacks, four blocked field goals, three fumble recoveries, and four forced fumbles as a senior in high school. He comes from Louisiana, which is definitely not a place that Purdue recruits very often.

His team had some talent, too. He had teammates got to Texas A&M, California, and Arkansas State. Here is what I found on him:

Brown played a vital role in a rejuvenated Tiger defense that made improvements under coach Nick Saltaformaggio, who just wrapped up his first year in the program.

Obviously that does not say a lot, but we will see how he develops.
