42 Days to Purdue Football: Andy James Garcia

Today's player provides much needed depth on the defense.

There are only six weeks left! Things really begin going in earnest later this week with media days in Chicago and the Big Ten Kickoff luncheon on Friday. In the meantime, let's continue the countdown with a linebacker from south Florida.

Andy James Garcia - Jr.

Hialeah, FL (Healeah HS)

6', 228 pounds

Linebacker

2015 Projection: Reserve at linebacker and contributor on special teams

Purdue looks to finally have its linebacker situation figured out after a decade of uncertainty. Ja'Whaun Bentley, Jimmy Herman, and Danny Ezechukwu have things under control, but depth is still important. That is where Garcia comes in.

Garcia has 24 games of experience under his belt as Purdue has tried to figure things out. He has played in every game the last two years, mostly as a reserve and on special teams. He still has made 20 career tackles and even had an interception against Nebraska as a redshirt freshman in 2013.

I also want to note that he hails from the same hometown as thefamous Mrs. T-Mill, who went to rival Goleman High.
